As it turns out, 2017-18 was another amazing year here at Blue Heron Elementary School. We were actually featured in the neighborhood magazine. I welcomed your teachers back to school in August by reminding them that “Together is Better Than 1” and our goal this year was “Pursuing Excellence!”

Sometimes visitors come to our school and I take them for a tour. After we walk the halls and so many students wave or tell me hello and give me those great hugs we exchange, the visitor will comment on how cool it is that Blue Heron kids know their principal and how friendly you all are. I tell them I am the luckiest principal in the whole state of Colorado, maybe the whole United States, because I work in the best school EVER. Our PTA really loves us and continues to be so generous so we can buy more technology and remodel our library and buy things teachers want to make their jobs easier. They even bought us SOUND BOARDS in the cafeteria to help reduce some of the noise in there. It sure made a difference.

We did our first ever Read-A-Thon this year and it was a big hit. So many books were read. Some real authors and real community heroes came to read in our classrooms! It was amazing and then a TON of kids got prizes. We held yet another great Veterans’ Day Assembly. We had a lot of kids compete in our Spelling Bee.

We had the NED Show where we learned to do tricks with Yoyos. Remember, NED means Never Give Up, Encourage Others and Do Your Best.

Remember that our Field Day got rained out not once but TWICE! That was very weird. I kept having to call our parents and say, “Sorry. Bad weather. We will try again next week.” Then we had that amazing Symphony performance that was sponsored by Thrivent Financial. We saw real full time professional musicians play symphony instruments like the Cello and the Oboe. And they were so impressed with the great students at our school. And let’s not forget the Jump-A-Thon we did as a community service for the American Heart Association. We raised over $3,800 for AHA. Don’t even get me started on Egg Roulette! I had egg i
n my hair, on my face, on my shirt

And finally Run-4-Funds. We sure stay busy at Blue Heron.

Next year when you come back (if you aren’t going to Middle School) I will be inviting you on a very special Bus Ride. Wonder what that means? I’m not telling you yet. You have to come back next year to find out!!!
