Attendance in Jeffco
The importance of regular, daily school attendance as a basis for academic achievement cannot be overemphasized. Attendance is a shared responsibility of the student, the families and the school.
It is the family’s responsibility to ensure their student attends school and to notify the school when their student is absent for a legitimate reason, such as an illness or family emergency. Each family should also ensure their student’s school has their correct contact information so that the school is able to communicate about any attendance issues that may arise.
Planned Absences
For pre-arranged absences use this absence form. If your child will be out for three or more consecutive days, this form needs to be filled out and submitted to the main office prior to the absence for the absence to be excused.
Tardiness
Blue Heron students who are tardy regularly miss the first instructions of the school day and are disruptive to the class when they arrive. Please make every effort to have your children arrive at school on time. Students who arrive after 7:45 a.m. are tardy.
This is when school starts:
- First bell, the front doors open at 7:35 a.m.
- School starts, class begins at 7:45 a.m.
- If your child is late, an adult will have to come into the school to sign them in.
Attendance Letters
Attendance letters will be mailed to students who have experienced attendance that is considered truant or is impacting their learning.
- Absent for ten days, excused or unexcused, will get an attendance letter from the attendance secretary to inform/remind you that your child's number of absences is increasing.
