Preschool

Authentic, experience-based, and engaging learning begins in preschool. Jeffco preschools build a foundation of academic, social-emotional, and physical learning so children are ready for school and a thriving future. Our programs are play-based and responsive to student needs so that children can be curious, joyful, and gain self-confidence.

Jeffco Public Schools offer a wide variety of quality preschool options for three and four-year-olds at 55 sites across the county. Programming includes core instruction, services for English language learners, social-emotional needs, and special education. Other options include programming that aligns with International Baccalaureate, Expeditionary Learning, and dual language instruction.

Jeffco Public Schools offers half-day and full-day preschool programs for three and four-year-old children throughout the district. Children turning three on or before October 1st are eligible to begin preschool. All programs are licensed by the Colorado Department of Human Services and meet the Colorado Department of Education Quality Standards for Early Childhood Care and Education Services.

In 2020, preschool starts the week of August 24. Families with preschoolers can choose between live and remote settings as follows:

Live in-person classroom

Remote classroom

The first week of the live option will start in a remote environment so that schools can ensure readiness with health and safety protocols in a live environment. This also allows teachers, families, and students to learn about how remote learning might work in the case that their class goes remote at any time during the school year. During this week,Lessons will be delivered through Seesaw for students, which can be accessed via an app on a phone or tablet, and Zoom/email for teacher - family connections.

Week two will be a modified week where teachers and instructors will invite small groups of students to tour the classroom and school, meet a few classmates and learn about health and safety protocols.

Week three will begin live learning for all students. It is important to note that health and safety protocols will be promoted as a part of the preschool live environment however, students will not be disciplined or excluded as they learn.

The learning focus for these first three weeks will be “Community”.

Classroom teachers and instructors return on August 12 and will be connecting with families as schedules and protocols are solidified.

Remote preschool learning in 2020-21 will be facilitated centrally by the Jeffco Early Learning team. Families will be connected to a credentialed teacher or instructor for daily engagement opportunities including: play-based lessons, whole child development strategies, observations and goal-setting, early literacy and numeracy teaching and learning, and more. These opportunities will equal about 90 minutes of synchronous and asynchronous activities, four days a week, Tuesday through Friday.

Lessons will be delivered through Seesaw for students, which can be easily accessed via an app on a phone or tablet, and Zoom/email for teacher - family connections. Adult learning and engagement are included as well as the potential for smaller, play-based live opportunities by scheduled appointment throughout the trimester.

The learning focus for the first three weeks will be “Community”.

Classroom teachers and instructors return on August 12 and will be connecting with families as schedules and protocols are solidified.
